New Canadian asthma guidelines will emphasize starting an inhaled daily corticosteroid earlier in patients with very mild or mild asthma.
It's because the threshold for "poor asthma control" is now lower.
For example, patients with daytime symptoms more than 2 days per week...or using more than 2 doses per week of a PRN reliever (salbutamol, etc)...are now considered to have poor asthma control.
